Relation between tourism and transportation industry:

Studies regarding the urban public transport service performance and quality from the perspective of the passenger generally focus on the attitudes of the local passengers regarding the adequacy of the public transport provision. While most of the studies are moderately productive enough to achieve their aim of informing the qualitative performance of the urban transport, limited attention has been provided to trace the relationship between the tourism and transport industry connection (Wejwithan et al., 2017). Within the literature of the tourism industry, very few has recognised the importance of the transportation system in order to enhance the performance of the tourism industry, however, most of them has missed the wide array of variables that can alter the equation between the relation of tourism and transportation industry. However, as per the research of Khan et al., (2017), it can be seen that there is inextricable relationship between the tourism and transportation industry and basic transportation is the fundamental need that enhance the performance of the tourism industry. as per the Li et al., (2016), the pattern of researches based on the tourism and transportation has mainly focused to trace how transportation enhance the economic performance of the tourism industry, however, spatial evolution of tourism destinations have made those findings irrelevant. With the rise in the transportation industry, wide amount of growth in case of the tourism industry can be observed as well. As the transportation industry grow, wide array of the subsidiary services grows and it allows the tourism destination to attract more amount of visitors enhancing the performance of the tourism industry (opal.com.au., 2018). On the other hand, with the effective and eco-friendly transportation program, it can be seen that pollution produced by the vehicles in earlier days can be reduced enhancing the sustainability of the biodiversity of the tourist spots.

Australia being one of the main tourist destinations around the world, enjoys millions of tourists round the year and it has enhanced the requirement of the good transportation system within the state. Thus, government has introduced various transportation package that are aimed to provide cheap services to the visitors. Below section will discuss regarding the practical utilisation of the transportation services wellness so as to enhance the growth of the transportation system.

Comparison of chosen services:

HOHO service is one of the best ticketing service, which is attached with more than 150 countries around the world (Hop-on-hop-off-bus.com., 2018). While keeping good connection with the local operators, this service provider always hunts for the quality service. Though the tickets from HOHO service, one can easily roam around the NSW without having tension for the fare of transportation. On the other hand, Opal service is one of the initiative from the local government to enhance the performance of the tourism industry economy (Transport.nsw.gov.au., 2013). It provides good benefit at low cost and one can top up the balance after utilisation of the available one.

Integration of the both products into Sydney’s transport system:

Opal card and HOHO services are different in source, however, they are aimed to enhance the tourism industry growth through the enhancement in the transportation industry. As it can be seen from the above analysis, with the rise in the transportation, tourism industry seems to have better profit scenario as well as it gains sustainability too (Hop-on-hop-off-bus.com., 2018). Opal card is aimed to provide higher number of rides at lower cost, whereas, HOHO services provide quality service at reasonable rate. Though, both have different approach of enhancing their acceptability to the wide array of consumers, yet they are aimed to enhance the tourism industry through the utilisation of the transportation services.

Recommendation:

As the recommendation, following can be portrayed for the opal and Hop On and Hop Off card:

• It would be ideal to connect Barangaroo with the Sydney and city centre that will allow formation of new bus routes and ferry hub
• Making public transport safer and comfortable will allow more tourist exposure
• Revitalised Circular Quay will allow the enhanced wayfinding by the tourists
• Providing good amount of discount and marketing mix can be utilised in order to enhance the performance of the tourism and transportation industry
• Enhancing access to the retail and commercial activity will allow the acceptability of the card in higher amount.

Conclusion:

From the above discussion, it can be seen that, there is an inherent relationship between the tourism and transportation industry and it is yet to be explored in greater amount by the researcher. As per the available researches, it can be seen that, there is positive relationship between the growth in the tourism industry and growth in the transportation services. Under low-priced services of transportation in the NSW area, it has eventually become the best tourist destination in the Australia and as the different means of ticketing service arise it faces higher number of visitors over the time. Comparing the different ticketing system, it can be seen that, if the tour is for 48 hours, then having a Hop On and Hop Off card will be beneficial, whereas, if the staying is more than two days, then it would be better to avail the Opal card service. It would rather save cost of transportation.
