Bps217 Ethics | Analysis Of Assessment Answer

A detailed analysis of the bias of the researcher, any bias detected in data presented in the article, and any other ethical issues inherent in the study

Answer:

Ethics can be explained to mean the moral principles that guide an individual’s way of doing things or behavior. On the other hand, Bias can be said to be an inclination for or against a person, a group or a decision especially in a way that may be considered unfair. From the things we think, say or even do every day, we are faced with numerous situations that require us to make thousands of decisions both small and big. While making those decisions, we rely on our intuition and analyzing every scenario that face us. While making daily decisions, knowingly or unknowingly an individual will find themselves making biased-decisions. In such cases, ethics come into play (Ahmad, Ismail, Azmi, & Zakaria, 2014).

When collecting data, there is need to ask questions that are not biased. Biased questions can be identified as being too wordy, questions that ask about multiple topics, questions that use strong words that may cause certain emotions from individual readers. In addition, biased questions will encourage responses especially inclining in a given side. Below are some questions to guide on identifying biased questions (Myhre Math MCHS, n.d).

  1. Do you agree that oranges are better than pineapples? This is a biased question since it is potentially asking a response and may even persuade a person to answer it in a certain way. The above question can be re-written in the following way. Do you prefer oranges to pineapples?
  2. Do you prefer cars or trains? This is an example of unbiased question. The question is not leaning people to answer in a certain way.

In conclusion, when constructing questions make sure you do not use strong words that may trigger certain emotions. Unbiased questions do not ask for answers that are inclined in a specific way.
