Lab 1 Resistor Color Code and Tolerance
Abstract:
This lab has given us the chance to become introduced to the multimeter, resistance measurement, and the resistor color code. By the end of this lab, we were able to effectively use a multimeter to measure the value of a resistor & its color values.
Introduction:
Electrical circuits have multiple variations of resistor networks. Resistors are used for distribution and limiting of electric current in a circuit. Resistors have 3-5 colored bands that have different values. Decoding these bands allows us to determine a resistors value. We are beginning to learn how to identify and measure the value of these resistors to be able to troubleshoot electrical circuits.
Simulation:
The experiment will done by selecting a resistor and find the color code value. The multimeter will serve as a gauge of the actual resistor value. Then we will record the data to determine if the resistor is within the value of the color code.
Experimental:
In the actual experiment, some resistors of color code value did not match or was near range of the value the multimeter displayed. In a trial and error method, we were able to select 10 resistors and record the value of the multimeter, which was relatively close to the color code value.
Results and Discussions:
The table set up below is the actual experimental values that was conducted in the lab. As mentioned by the professor, the measured VOM is voided because the equipment was not used in the experiment.

Sample Calculations:
Resistor 1:
Maximum= (33x102)*5%= 165 → 3300+165=3465 Ω
Minimum= 3300-165= 3135 Ω
Conclusions:
In the aftermath of the experiment conducted, the multimeter displayed values that within the range of the resistors picked of color code value. It is important to highlight, that some resistors of color code value had a high error of margin when the multimeter was used to record its actual value. Therefore, in the future we will have to double check if the any resistors picked is verified correctly by the multimeter.
