NeptuNetworks International

The Organization that I am going to be creating a system for is called NeptuNetworks International. NeptuNetworks’ main operations happen in downtown New York City but has many offices across the entire United States. They also have a few offices in England, Japan, and Germany. NeptuNetworks’ goal is to provide network hardware for businesses and corporations. They provide everything that companies need to have a great network. From routers, modems, firewalls and servers, NeptuNetworks has it all. Not only do they sell hardware, but they also help other businesses set up their networks if a network has not yet been created.

The WBS that I created for NeptuNetworks aims to improve the UI and database that include information about the organization’s inventory, customers, and order management. I plan to have the database auto track everything that is held within it, which includes all of the stock and customer information. I also plan to have an easily accessible user interface to make it easy for customers to find their products.

Identify the problem: 3 days

  • Talk with administration to identify what they want with a new database and UI
  • Meet with veteran workers for feedback on what could be added, improved, or removed

Obtain approval: 2 days

  • Meet with management to discuss the need of a new database system and UI
  • Discuss the cost of the project as well as the benefits that it will bring

Plan and monitoring: 5 days

  • Decide what functions should be added, removed or improved from the current database
  • Identify how many people are needed for the project
  • Issue customer satisfaction surveys based on user experience
  • Identify how long it takes for customer’s to place orders
  • Monitor how employees currently use the database

Design the system: 14 days

  • Design GUIs that are simple and quick to navigate.
  • Add features to the UI based on customer satisfaction feedback
  • Add/Modify features within the database using feedback from employees
  • Determine what features need to be implemented first
  • Create a way for frequent updates to occur on both the database and UI.

Build and Test: 60 days

  • Begin creating the user interface
  • Start rolling out new features and modifications to the database system
  • Have employers test the new systems and record any feedback
  • Use the feedback during testing to continue to improve the systems
  • Repeat the testing and improvement steps

Complete System tests and deploy the solution: 20 days

  • Make final adjustments to the UI
  • Continue improving and adding features to the database
  • Call for final testing of the UI and database
  • Deploy product

The project will take approximately 104 days to complete. Note that this is not a hard-set date and could be shortened or extended based on the needs of the workers. The cost of the project will be around $65,000 for all of the new features and upgrades. This cost also takes account for the wages and rates for the workers that will be working on the project as well. This amount could surely rise or decline depending on how much time is actually spent on the project. Since all of the work within the project is time sensitive, it is important that workers use time wisely. Ephesians 5:16-17 (ESV) states “making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” With this verse in mind, it should motivate workers to not procrastinate or get distracted so that the project turns out the best that it can possibly be within a reasonable time.
